The biggest challenge for a creative person is deciding
which media to pursue. Since Kathleen started sewing at age seven,
it was easy for her to begin leatherwork in her mid 20's.
Kathleen
had graduated from Cornell University and worked for three years
in the field of her choice, Interior Design. Fate put her out of
a job and landed her in Pennsylvania, in a tiny town with a great
leather shop. Since the owners did not need any help, she asked
if she could make things from their throw-away scraps.
They
let her sell her hand-laced change purses in the shop and eventually
hired her to make leather vests and skirts. Shortly thereafter one
of the owners and Kathleen fell in love, left the store and started
attending the quality craft shows on the East Coast.
Eight
years later they married and opened a craft gallery in the same
location the leather shop had been. In 1991 they divorced
and Kathleen continued to run the store for another five years,
eventually getting back into selling her fine leatherwork in craft
shows. Now three decades later, she still enjoys working with leather.
What
more could one ask for? The Interior Designer still likes
to come out and play with Feng Shui. Teaching Yoga and Reiki are
other avenues Kathleen pursues with great glee. She also creates
necklaces with semi precious stones and sea pearls, knotted on silk
thread. In the future this site will take you to more information
on these creations and activities, which Kathleen enjoys along with
her fine leatherwork. |
